Crosslake Fibre’s unique company DNA is to not only operate as an International Network Service Provider (NSP) but also to locate, develop and build longhaul fibre routes that need new fibre networks, diverse and complementary to existing routes and that can deliver internet infrastructure that is applicable for applications not only for today’s technology but for future generations of users.

2017
Marine Survey for Lake Ontario Project

Crosslake commissions Canadian Seabed Research to perform an underwater marine survey of Lake Ontario, a month long process to collect geophysical and geotechnical data, required to design and engineer the Lake Ontario cable.

Tiger Infrastructure Partners Invests in Crosslake Fibre

Tiger Infrastructure Partners's investment enabled Crosslake to develop fibre-optic cable projects throughout North America, including a new submarine fibre-optic cable from Toronto, Canada to Buffalo, New York through Lake Ontario.

Lake Ontario Submarine Cable Installed

Crosslake celebrated the completion of a submarine fibre optic cable bridging Lake Ontario between Toronto and Buffalo, New York. While submarine cables have existed for hundreds of years, and dozens run across our oceans, Crosslake Fibre’s project is a first in the Great Lakes and provides critical telecommunications infrastructure for the region.

Lake Ontario Project Between Toronto and Buffalo Goes Live

Crosslake announced that the first new fibre-optic cable constructed between Toronto and New York in almost two decades had entered commercial service, creating a new low-latency path between Toronto and New York.

CrossChannel Project Planning Begins

Crosslake announces its newest subsea cable project, CrossChannel Fibre. The historic, next-generation 550km cable is the first fibre-optic subsea cable to be built across the English Channel in nearly twenty years and will connect Slough, United Kingdom and Paris, France

Crosslake Expands North American Network

Crosslake expands its network into the 165 Halsey Street data center facility.

Marine Survey for CrossChannel Project

The marine route survey, which included geotechnical, geophysical, and unexploded ordnance surveys, is completed to optimize the route for cable protection.

2021
CrossChannel Project Goes Live

Crosslake goes live with its new, 550km route connecting London (Slough) and Paris. The cable went into service in December 2021 and provides much needed fibre supply as it is the first new cable laid between the UK and France across the English Channel in over 20 years. The new, low latency route, provides physical diversity and lower total cost of fibre ownership to the market.

Crosslake Expands Network Footprint in Both Europe and North America

Crosslake continued its network expansion through the addition of new PoPs growing its core backbone network to 25 on-net PoPs.

Crosslake Network Expansion Continues

Crosslake continues its expansion through the addition of new backbone PoPs in Paris that form a metro ring connecting key data centres in the city.

Maple Leaf Fibre Begins Developent

Maple Leaf Fibre is a joint venture between Crosslake Fibre and Metro Optic to develop a new high-count fibre-optic cable between Toronto and Montreal. The new, entirely underground route, will be completed by the end of 2024 to provide physically diverse dark fibre to the market.

MIKE CUNNINGHAM

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Mike Cunningham is the founder and CEO of Crosslake Fibre and has over 16 years experience in the telecommunications and investment industries. Previously, Mr. Cunningham was on the board of Quintillion Subsea, a 1700 mile subsea and terrestrial cable system serving the north coast of Alaska, and CEO of Arctic Fibre, the predecessor company to Quintillion. Mr. Cunningham began his career in the investment industry, most recently as a Research Analyst covering small cap equities at Northern Rivers Capital Management. He holds a BA, Honors from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Finance degree from Queen’s University, and holds the Canadian Investment Manager’s designation from the Canadian Securities Institute.

FERGUS INNES

CHIEF COMMERCIAL OFFICER

Fergus Innes is Chief Commercial Officer of Crosslake Fibre.  Prior to Crosslake, Mr Innes spent 8 years as Regional Vice President, EMEA and Executive Management Team member at Hibernia Networks where he built and lead the EMEA Carrier, Finance & Media business until the successful exit to GTT for $590m in January 2017.  Prior to joining Hibernia Networks in 2009, Mr Innes worked for Colt, where he spent 8 years in a number of senior management roles. These included four years at Colt Ireland as Sales Director where he oversaw the migration from Colt’s country management operation to a centralised Business Enterprise Unit.  Before Colt, he held senior positions at Cable & Wireless, Telia Sonera and IT&T Communications. Mr. Innes holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Information Systems and a Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Hull.

BEN COOKE

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, NETWORKS

Ben Cooke is Senior Vice President, Networks of Crosslake Fibre and brings a wealth of experience managing globally diverse engineering and operations teams in telecoms, high frequency financial trading and fintech industries.  Formerly CTO at Perseus and IT Director & Network Architect at Geneva Trading he has been building low latency fibre & microwave global network infrastructure for over 20 years.  Responsible for overseeing all areas of engineering and operations at Crosslake Fibre including network planning, construction, monitoring and maintenance, service delivery, customer care and technical support.   He holds a M.Eng in Naval Architecture from Southampton University and Assoc member of RINA.

OMER SHEKHANI

VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE

Omer Shekhani is the Vice President, Finance at Crosslake Fibre and has over 15 years of experience in finance functions, primarily across telecom and oil & gas sectors. Omer has worked for organizations like TekSavvy and Bell Canada, Qatargas (LNG company based in Qatar), Eni (Italian Oil & Gas multinational) and PwC. His experience includes setting up the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function and driving the planning of FTTH deployments, implementation of revenue accounting standards, and leading Controlling functions for joint ventures at Eni. Omer holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Karachi University and is a licenced CPA (CPA Ontario), ACMA (CIMA) and FCA (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan).

Alessandro Boninsegna

Alessandro Boninsegna is a director of Crosslake Fibre.  Mr. Boninsegna has over 20 years of professional experience, primarily in private equity.  He is a founding member of Tiger Infrastructure Partners and, prior to that, of Lehman Brothers’ infrastructure private equity team, based in London.  Previously, Mr. Boninsegna spent over 11 years as a member of Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking, managing Lehman Brothers’ middle-market private equity funds, based in London and New York.  While at Lehman Brothers, Mr. Boninsegna had a senior role in the investment in and served on the board of several portfolio companies across multiple industries. He was also involved in establishing and served on the investment committee of F2i, an Italian infrastructure private equity investment firm with over €2 billion under management.  Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Boninsegna was a management consultant at Bain & Co. in Milan, Italy, and, prior to that, a certified public accountant at Haarmann Hemmelrath in Munich, Germany. Mr. Boninsegna serves on the Boards of Tiger Cool Express, Etix Everywhere, American Natural, Sunlight Financial, and Zenobe Energy, is a Board observer at Summit Brazil Renewables and previously was a Board observer at Hudson Fiber Holdings. Mr. Boninsegna holds a degree in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Bocconi University in Italy, part of which was earned from New York University Stern School of Business, and is a native speaker of German and Italian.

Adam Emmert

Adam Emmert is a director of Crosslake Fibre. Mr Emmert has over 15 years of experience in private equity and corporate finance. He was previously a member of Lehman Brothers’ infrastructure private equity team, based in New York. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Emmert was a Vice President at Highstar Capital. Prior to joining Highstar Capital, Mr. Emmert was a member of Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking Group and worked in investment banking in Lehman Brothers’ Global Power Group. Mr. Emmert serves on the Boards of Tiger Cool Express, and Danskammer HoldCo, previously served on the Board of Hudson Fiber Holdings and is a board observer at Etix Everywhere and SmartSky Networks. He holds a B.A. from Kenyon College, an M.A. in International Affairs and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School.

Andrew Baum

Andrew Baum is a director of Crosslake Fibre. Mr. Baum has over 10 years of experience in private equity and corporate finance. He was previously a member of CHS Capital, a middle-market private equity firm, based in Chicago. Prior to joining CHS Capital, Mr. Baum worked in investment banking in Citi’s Industrial Group. Mr. Baum serves on the Boards of Crosslake Fibre, Modern Aviation and Strategic Venue Partners, and is a board observer at SmartSky Networks. He holds a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

Keith Muller

Keith Muller is a director of Crosslake Fibre. Mr. Muller is CEO of Interactive Telecom Solutions. He has an extensive and diverse background in communications and began his career as Managing Director at Centex Telemanagement/Metropolitan Fiber Systems (MFS), which was one of the first companies to deploy a SONET ring in New York City and offer multiple services on one platform. He rapidly became one of the company’s top producers and achieved many national sales recognition awards. After MFS was acquired by MCI, Mr. Muller founded Blue Chip Consulting, a full-service communications management and consulting company. In 2000, he joined Business Communications Management (BCM) as Managing Director of Indirect and Direct Sales for North America. Mr. Muller was instrumental in the growth of the company’s bottom line revenue and creation of many of the processes and procedures that still exist today. Mr. Muller founded Interactive Telecom Solutions (ITS) in 2003. ITS has become a leading master agency with 30+ carrier agreements and numerous sales achievement awards across the entire portfolio. Mr. Muller attended Syracuse University, is married with two children, and resides in Bergen County, New Jersey.
